Electric Wine Cooler or Thermoelectric
I hear you're wondering what the difference is between electric wine coolers and a thermoelectric one. Well, they both run on electricity, so that doesn't tell us much; looks like we will have to dig a little deeper. Here's the answer in short form minus all the technical jargon. When you think of cooling what's the first thing that comes to mind? I'll bet you it's either an air conditioner or a fridge, am I right? Of course I'm right and so are you. Both of those cooling appliances use a mechanical motor called a compressor which uses a gas called Freon to get the cooling effect. While compressors aren't overly noisy they do create some noises along with the fans that are required to moderate the temperature. When it is imperative to keep a constant temperature with little variation, electric wine coolers with a compressor is the way to go. This type of cooling is also mandatory in most wine cellars where you have a large vintage wine collection. Recently there has been an incredible influx of thermoelectric wine coolers for the home wine collector or occasional drinker. While this type of cooler is not as accurate in temperature as the compressor run model it us usually sufficient for the average wine fancier. You probably keep your home around the same temperature year round which is perfect for the thermoelectric cooler as surrounding temperature can affect this coolers ability. The greatest benefit is in the price as they are much cheaper than the compressor units and much quieter. There really aren't any moving parts except for possibly a very small fan. I have a 16 bottle wine cooler here in the office and my laptop makes more noise. So, if you need to chill anything over 60 bottles I would suggest getting a standard compressor wine cooler to protect your large investment. Be prepared to pay much more for these wine cooler units.
